I found a really good book more related to hard-facts and data about living in Paris, for those interested: Living and Working in France – 11th edition. Written with a slight slant for UK persons but a lot of US friendly information.

I have read all of the recommended books and second them!
Two more:
Home Sweet Maison by Danielle Postel-Vinay provides good insight into cultural differences as well as décor.
The New Paris by Lindsey Tramuta is an interesting overview of the modern city. Mostly about food but in the larger context of the ‘new energy’ being brought to traditional concepts.
