I wanted to do something similar with a group of friends and luckily stumbled upon it when I was researching – it was such a lifeline. We basically used your itinerary as a guide, but cut out Arles and went Avignon – Saint Remy – Tarascon – Avignon. We hired a phone mount and saddle bags each from the bike rental which were invaluable but we also probably wouldn’t have thought of them had we not read your learnings. We really liked Domaine Dalmeran!! And Saint Remy was so quaint. We also detoured to Chateau Romanin on the other side of Saint Remy on Day 1, which was worth it for the scenery, and we went back to Avignon via Pont Du Gard on Day 3 for a picnic and a swim. Getting out of Avignon was by far the worst bit for us but once we were on the quiet roads and cycle paths they were easy to navigate (esp. with the help of the Bike Path app to make sure we were on course). But honestly – if it wasn’t for your blog, I don’t think we would’ve had the confidence to do a biking trip around Provence on our own. So a massive thanks to you for this post and for charting the course!!

Comment on How to Get Your Securité Sociale & Carte Vitale in France by Charli https://www.frenchyet.com/securing-your-carte-vitale-securite-sociale-france/#comment-35094 Wed, 03 Apr 2024 16:48:24 +0000 http://www.frenchyet.com/?p=2481#comment-35094 In reply to Erin H.

I sign with my maiden name because that is what I’m used to signing documents with, but I’m pretty sure you can you either. France considers both your legal names, unlike the US you don’t have to “drop” your maiden name.

Thanks for a great article. I’m at the point of mailing back the carte vitale form with my photo and a copy of my passport, but I’m stumped on one point: As a women should I sign the form with my first name and maiden name, first name and married name or first name and both maiden and married name?

Hi dear charli
Thanks for sharing your experience!
My question is that: could I come back to my home country between the period of “validation online” and OFFII and medical exam?
Because if it takes longtime , I need to back to my country and managing my business

I had heard many such things before my first visit to Paris but Thankfully, I did not experience any of those. Latin quarter is wonderful to stay.

Comment on Why Do French People Respond in English When I Speak French? by Sean https://www.frenchyet.com/why-do-french-people-respond-in-english-when-i-speak-french/#comment-32986 Sat, 19 Aug 2023 07:47:30 +0000 http://www.frenchyet.com/?p=2296#comment-32986 In reply to Carmel.

I feel your frustration, especially with the waiter in the restaurant. That is so infuriating. I know there are times when people are just trying to be helpful but I also can’t help feeling there is a certain amount of arrogance involved too. As in “don’t worry your limited English speaking brain trying to speak another language…..”
I have experience the same as you when I have asked people to speak in French to me. As soon as I say “what?” once, they switch back to English. So, you end up in conversations where you have to literally understand everything because it’s a ‘one strike and you’re out’ rule. Of course, when you have this pressure on you, it is inevitable that you will say “comment?” and….you’re back to square one.
It’s a vicious circle

I’m working as a Customer Service Representative for a company based in Hungary. But I don’t know if I’m in the correct activity. I can see there are “liberale” , “artisanale” and “commerciale”. I enrolled myself as “liberale”. Can someone clarify if I’m in the correct activity field, please? Thanks!
