I wanted to do something similar with a group of friends and luckily stumbled upon it when I was researching – it was such a lifeline. We basically used your itinerary as a guide, but cut out Arles and went Avignon – Saint Remy – Tarascon – Avignon. We hired a phone mount and saddle bags each from the bike rental which were invaluable but we also probably wouldn’t have thought of them had we not read your learnings. We really liked Domaine Dalmeran!! And Saint Remy was so quaint. We also detoured to Chateau Romanin on the other side of Saint Remy on Day 1, which was worth it for the scenery, and we went back to Avignon via Pont Du Gard on Day 3 for a picnic and a swim. Getting out of Avignon was by far the worst bit for us but once we were on the quiet roads and cycle paths they were easy to navigate (esp. with the help of the Bike Path app to make sure we were on course). But honestly – if it wasn’t for your blog, I don’t think we would’ve had the confidence to do a biking trip around Provence on our own. So a massive thanks to you for this post and for charting the course!!

And what great memories you’ve created for yourselves, even (and maybe especially) the flat tire! I’ve been doing month-long voyages à vélo in France for the past five years, mainly in other areas but did a ride in Provence this year. You’re right, getting out of Avignon on a bike sucks (I was on the north end, near the Palais des Papes), but once out, the scenery improves immensely. When I ride, I don’t have a set schedule (only the last day to turn my bike in) and simply meander. As you know from your trip, that’s where the really interesting encounters happen. Congratulations on your accomplishment.

Yup. You may have taught us how to RIDE a bike, but fixing one never sunk in. I told Cati it wasn’t right but she insisted it would work hahaha

The little hiccups definitely make it all the more memorable! Thanks for reading Joy.

We did a little biking holiday on Ile de Ré and despite my husband biking for sport regularly, he managed to wreck his bike within the first 3 km. We then tried to continue anyway and find a pharmacy along the way to patch him up. Ile de ré has to be the only exception to the France has pharmacies everywhere rule and so we ended up biking an extra 20 km (on top of the planned 40) that first day, and then I spent the rest of the holiday so sore I could barely climb the 2 flights of stairs to our rental let alone bike to the planned beaches!
