Managed to came in France via laissez passer given for LDR couples in Dec 2020, we decided to take the leap and got married in February before I have to return to my country to apply for the titre de sejour. Now I am back in France with my VLS-TS and starting the French administrative procedures, it’s definitely not easy but the whole process is worth it.

Thanks again for your sharing and all your posts have been a tremendous help throughout the process though I am not American but the process is similar. Loving this quote: “It’s not about the papers, but the right to be in each other’s lives that those papers give you. And that is true romance. “

As a now spouse of a French citizen and navigating through Covid trying to find ways for us to stay together, this blog has helped me tremendously along the way. We made the leap to get married in November 2020 so that we wouldnt have to be separated when his work visa in the US was finished. It was after only 9 months of dating, needless to say, my family and friends didnt understand. This post warmed my heart and made me feel understood, heard, and recognized. Some days doubt comes into my mind about the idea of having a wedding and the whole 9 yards since thats what is considered “romantic”. However your post made me realize that our story is romantic! I am now living in Paris and learning the language which has proven difficult but whenever I read you blog I always feel comforted and that I will adjust.

I love the quote “It’s not about the papers, but the right to be in each other’s lives that those papers give you. And that is true romance.”

Thank you again Charli!

I’d never really thought about marriage in those terms before. I have just always felt it wasn’t a necessary step in today’s society. But I was clearly wrong. Oh, what we continue to learn! Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful story! XO
